1.1 Sustainable Lighting
Over half of the energy used in a commercial building can be for lighting. However
through proper lighting design and the use of energy efficient lighting technologies,
the energy required for lighting can be significantly reduced and the overall quality
of lighting enhanced.
An essential element of good lighting design is the use of natural lights, or daylight.
The purpose of this module is to provide some basic guidelines for considering daylighting
in a space. While daylighting offers many health, energy and environmental benefits,
it should always be part of a broader energy efficient lighting plan including lamp
selection,luminaire selection and the use of lighting controls. For additional information
